During our General Membership/Election Meeting last Wednesday October 21, 2009 we reviewed the chronological order of events that Joe Huber and Werner Rotach followed in our drive to build 4 More Courts in 2009. We did everything asked of us by the CA Board and we still get roadblocks to having 4 More Courts built. The latest delay tactic by the CA Board is they want a Land Use Study done, which was brought up months ago but never done. I say delay because what other practical use of the land next to the current pickleball courts is there.
Joe Huber asked every member present and those not present to call each CA Board Member and express your desire to have 4 More Courts in the New River Sports Park now. The Sunsations Magazine lists their telephone numbers and email addresses. The Pickleball Club has 900 members plus numerous non-members playing that deserve 4 More Courts now.
The Pickleball Club had offered to pay for the entire cost of the new courts until our previous Executive Director cost estimated the courts out of sight. We still could offer $20,000 right now towards the construction of courts. Three courts fit without any fill needed next to the current courts at the New River Sports Park for approximately $65,000 (Howard B. Jones and Son quoted $44,000 to build them on prepped ground) that our current Executive Director thought was a reasonable cost estimate. By building 3 pickleball courts NO other amenity would have to be moved to construct 3 pickleball courts, thus saving costs.
The promise that Pulte Homes is going to build 4 More Courts in 2010 for opening in 2011 may never happen if home sales continue to lag. Plus most of the population is on this side of US 278, which is where the courts should be.
So be proactive and call each CA Board Member so they know it is not just Joe Huber and Werner Rotach wanting more pickleball courts now.
