There are various rating systems designed to help players determine their skill levels. If you participate in tournaments or league play, you likely already have a rating. However, if you don't compete in these settings, you might not know your skill level compared to others. Ratings help group players into skill levels, ensuring you play with others of similar capability. Within our club, we are currently using a three tiered model for Club Rated play.

  • Novice –– up to 2.5 Level Players
Players at the 2.5 level are ready for more structured, yet still friendly games. They know the basics, can rally, and are starting to think about shot placement and strategy. This group is a great fit for organized play where the focus is on improving consistency, learning to work with a partner, and building confidence through fun, competitive matchups with players of similar ability.

  • Intermediate –– 3.0 Level Players
Players at the 3.0 level have solid fundamentals and can handle faster-paced, more strategic games. They’re more consistent with serves, returns, and dinks, and they’re starting to set up points with better shot selection and court positioning. These intermediate players are ready for organized play that’s more competitive, where teamwork, placement, and strategy come into play — where the games are still fun and encouraging for everyone involved.

  • Advanced –– 3.5+ Level Players
More advanced, the 3.5 and above bring strong skills, court awareness, and a strategic mindset to the game. They’re consistent under pressure, use a mix of power and finesse, and understand how to control the pace and direction of play. These players thrive in competitive, fast-paced matches where quick hands, smart shot selection, and partner communication are key. Organized play at this level should challenge them while keeping the play respectful, focused, and fun.
